Dear Arielle
"I am emailing about a recent vet visit where she remarked how Fidel, our rescue Chihuahua, was amazing for being almost 17!
She noticed his healthy shining coat, his perfect weight, his muscle tone, despite bad teeth, his fine gums. I told her how he sprints and acts like a dog half his age. He has gained 450g since the last visit, but she said that was actually a really good thing given his age as it is more likely to be muscle.
He makes me very proud - he is my wing man and keeps the other 9 rescue dogs in check, even Clara the pointer cross! I told them he had been plant-based for years. Told her about you. Told her about the increasing body of peer reviewed literature - she took copious notes!!
She was genuinely impressed by both his and Delilah's condition for their respective ages. I think it must be 5 years since I reached out to you when The Guardian story caught my attention.
For all those years of kindness and your wonderful food, I am truly grateful. And of course little Paddy lived 2 years longer than the prognosis he had been given. They all eat Give A Dog A Bean blended with home prepared foods.
Fidel is frankly amazing. For any human who adores their dogs and wants them to live a happy, healthy and long life, and who equally cares deeply about our earthly ecosystem and our the small yet significant steps we can take to try and stall the pernicious existential threats to it, plant-based proteins are the only logical choice.
Aside from healthy longevity, these are the two key aspects I appreciate the most – all, including the geriatrics, have beautiful fur that shines and feels like satin, and there is not one hint of obesity and all the health issues that brings with it.
To have ten lots of poop to pick up, that never insults my olfaction is another bonus (and gone are the days of regular periods of bad tummies).
Me and my brood are so thankful for you!"
With warm wishes, Nigel, London
(And to you Nigel as a vegan vet I am SO thankful for you and all you do for your 10 adored rescues 💚)
