Health Benefits

As well as making up a complete diet, Give A Dog A Bean’s ingredients also have a number of health benefits for the body, in particular the skin, heart and digestion:

  • Bean and Quinoa protein is chosen as a valuable protein source as both have an optimal amino acid profile for your dog.
  • Added Hemp Seeds and Algae provides the essential Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. They lead to a soft and healthy coat and fully support a healthy skin barrier for all dogs with sensitive skins.
  • Blueberries are chosen for their antioxidant properties. They are characterised by a high fibre content, which has a beneficial effect on digestion. Minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium are abundant in blueberries as well as high levels of Vitamins B and E.
  • Papaya is another superfood that is added as it contains one of the highest levels of natural digestive enzymes of all the fruit.
  • Sweet Potato is rich in nutrients and fibre and contains large amounts of Vitamins A, C and E, as well as essential fibre. Due to a low sodium content, sweet potato has a diuretic effect, so that detoxification processes are stimulated in the body and harmful waste products are more easily removed.
  • The addition of Carrots, Kale, Green Beans, Pumpkin Seeds and Psyllium Husks ensures that your dog gets their ā€˜5 a day’ to naturally feed their gut microbiome which in turn will look after your dog’s health naturally.
  • Give a Dog A Bean is a healthy, nutritionally complete, very tasty hypoallergenic plant-based food for your dog.
WHY HAVE YOU NOT USED PEA PROTEIN OR YEAST?

We are so proud to have produced the very first vegan dog food in the world to contain no yeast and no pea protein as one of its ingredients.
We have chosen to omit pea protein as we have had so many dogs show intolerances to peas of any kind so Give A Dog A Bean is the ONLY grain-free plant-based food that they will be able to eat.

The same goes for yeast intolerances. In our experience; dogs that suffer from yeast infections on their skin and in their ears, tend to have a yeast intolerance in their diet, and this is one of the only foods in the UK that has no yeast or animal proteins in it for these sensitive dogs. Feeding Guidelines and Storage

Suitable as a complete meal for adult dogs from 9-12 months old (small breeds), 12 months (medium/ large breeds), 18 months (giant breeds).

Can also be mixed with your puppy’s current dry food as high in protein. Feed once or twice a day at room temperature. Always keep a bowl of fresh water close by.

Transition your dog over a period of 2 – 3 weeks by slowly reducing the amount of original food and increasing the amount of GIVE A DOG A BEANĀ  each day if feeding meat-based dog food. Each tray weighs 290g. Store in a cool dry place. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 2 days.

Raw fed dogs may require a slightly longer transition to ensure that their gut microbiome can adapt to the increase in natural fibre.
Ideal used as a topper over homemade fresh food or mixed with dry biscuits to offer extra taste and texture.

Save costs by supplementing your dog's daily allowance of Give A Dog A Bean by adding in extra sweet potato, cooked and mashed beans or peas, carrots, tofu, tempeh and quinoa (that is what we do as we share our food with our dog Ruff!)

Daily feeding recommendation:
5 kg: 320 – 365g

10 kg: 540 - 615g

20 kg: 910 – 1030 g

30 kg: 1230 - 1400g

40 kg: 1525 – 1730 g

50 kg: 1800 – 2050 g

60 kg: 2070 – 2350g
daily quantity in grams depending on your dog's weight although age, activity, size, season and appetite may all influence the amount you feed your dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Is a plant-based diet safe for my dog or cat?

Absolutely. As a vet with 30+ years of experience, I formulated Just Be Kind to meet the rigorous FEDIAF nutritional guidelines for both dogs and cats. Our products are "complete and balanced," meaning they contain all the essential amino acids - includingTaurine and L-Carnitine -that pets need to thrive, maintain healthy hearts and stay active at every life stage. We only use science andevidence-based studiesto support all the products we promote.

2

How does 'soya-free' nutrition help with itchy skin and allergies?

Many common pet allergies are triggered by animal proteins or GMO soya fillers found in standard dog and cat food. By being 100% pure plant-based, soya-free and gluten-free, Just Be Kind removes these inflammatory triggers. You should notice a significant reduction in scratching, redness, and digestive upsets in your dog or cat within 2-4 weeks of removing these common allergens from their food bowl.

3

My vet is sceptical about plant-based diets; what should I tell them?

It’s natural for vets to be cautious, as many plant-based brands are not yet known due to fierce competition and dominance by the meat-based pet food corporates used in vet practices in the UK. However, Just Be Kind products are all chosen by Dr Arielle Griffiths (MRCVS) and backed by robust clinical evidence. We provide full nutritional transparency and use highly digestible proteins and cutting edge novel fermentation proteins, which many veterinary professionals now recommend as a clean, hypoallergenic alternative to traditional "Prescription Diets."

4

Will my pet actually like the taste? (What if they are picky?)

We use clean, wholefood ingredients such as Faba bean protein, Omega 3s and fermented proteins that have a rich "umami" flavour that dogs and cats crave. If you have a particularly picky eater, we recommend adding our Omega 3 Algae oil to any of the foods we stock. It's rich aroma and taste is highly enticing and acts as a perfect addition to encourage even the most hesitant dog or cat to lick their food bowls clean.

5

How do I transition my pet to Just Be Kind?

We recommend a gradual 7–10 day transition to allow your pet’s gut microbiome to adjust. Start by mixing 25% Just Be Kind foods with 75% of their current food and slowly increase the ratio every few days. For cats, who can be more sensitive to texture changes, taking the full 10 days ensures they accept the new protein comfortably without any tummy upsets. You can add nutritional yeast, warm the food slightly, or add Omega 3 Daily Algae oil to their food to encourage fussy eaters to try the food.
