When I started Just Be Kind in 2020 as a very passionate vet who had only just transitioned both herself and our family dog Ruff onto a vegan diet; I chose to only go with the best quality dog food that I could source to feed him. (I ignored my own plant-based diet at the start and concentrated purely on Ruff as we all do with prioritising the health and needs of our dogs above our own!)
My journey began with importing Green Crunch from Germany as at the time, it was the best food that I wanted to feed Ruff as I trusted the VegDog team in Germany completely.
Towards the end of 2020, I sourced a second brand of vegan dog food that I tried on Ruff...he loved it, and it was being sold by one of the top veterinary dermatology vets in the UK Dr Sue Paterson on her Virtual Vetderms website, so I knew that I could trust it immediately and could begin stocking it.

Dr Sue Paterson was the first vet to import Solo Vegetal in 2018 from veterinary dermatology company Vetruus (now Nextmune UK). She has this to say about using hypoallergenic truly novel protein complete plant-based diets -

My love of Solo Vegetal had begun!
Not only did Ruff approve hugely of this very tasty new food, but so did your dogs! As a vet I began to realise the power of plant-based nutrition on the health of ALL our dogs - not just those with sensitivities needing soya and grain-free diets.
Initially, I was doing all the packing of the orders at our little unit in Melton Mowbray. I remember one day in 2020 where I had about 20 of the large heavy Solo Vegetal bags to pack and sort and take to the post office.....and that was when I realised that I needed help!
My sales of these bags of highly palatable food was increasing daily, and with help from fellow vegan business owner at the time Jo (who has sadly sold Hownd); I was able to use their packaging company to expand Just Be Kind and stop doing all the packaging myself!!
Our packaging company sent me an update in the summer on how many bags of Solo Vegetal they have packaged and sent to feed your dogs since I began using them in December 2020 - July 2024 and the figures are astounding!
