JBK heart
As a vegan vet and highly sensitive person who is passionate about dog health and animal welfare and doing the right thing; I do get carried away with making myself vulnerable and posting as much as I can about matters that affect all of us.
I am so desperate to be heard by everyone from you the dog lover, to the vets making important decisions such as those in charge of the British Veterinary Association (BVA).
Knowing that the head vet of the BVA is an environmentalist, and a member of the Veterinary Sustainability Forum; I post regularly about matters that I feel everyone in the veterinary profession needs to hear as these are matters that really decide on the future for all of us.
The post I sent them was very personal and heartfelt and how saddened I felt to receive a message from the Veterinary Sustainability Forum which said that it had been removed and I was not to post anything again as I was Spamming their site.
I want to shout the benefits of plant-based nutrition in our dogs from the rooftops as I see the most amazing transformations on a daily basis of dogs whose health and entire life is changed when they move to a complete soya-free and grain-free vegan dog food diet instead of the veterinary hydrolysed protein diets that affect the entire character of dogs with genetically modified soya and added pure sugar! What sadness that other vets will not be allowed to hear this.
This is the image and the short post that I sent and I leave you to decide if it should have been banned from all vets reading it.....
Insects on windscreen showing environmental changes over the years
My husband and I arrived in the UK as freshly qualified vets from South Africa in 1994. It seems like a lifetime ago....and it was! Our very first veterinary jobs were in Kent.
I remember driving the beautiful Kent countryside past hop fields and apple orchards in my very old bouncy Citroen car that was provided by the practice. On long summery evenings driving home from work, the windscreen used to be splattered with insects of all varieties.
Now exactly 30 years later, I find myself suffering from such climate change and biodiversity loss anxiety - how I wish there were insects on our windscreens again but they seem to have all gone!
The main cause? Intensive farming of crops with the use of pesticides to feed the millions of intensively raised chickens, cattle, sheep and dairy cows. Yes a new analysis has shown that almost 50% of the UK's most productive agricultural land is used to grow food for animals instead of people.....and it will all be sprayed with pesticides!
The only way that I can balance my overwhelming guilt in my 50's of what sort of a future we are leaving for our children......is to eat a vegan diet (which I really love by the way), feed our family dog Ruff only sustainably sourced vegan dog food, and promote it as MUCH as a I can 🙌
I am blown away by the health benefits of plant🌱based diets in dogs and I am totally in love with my Just Be Kind dog food business, the dogs and people I have met on my journey, and veganism.....it helps me sleep at night and gives me such hope without incessant worrying about our future!
Thank you for reading this post 🌟💚

Why was this post banned from the Veterinary Sustainability Forum?
Very sadly, the veterinary world is a giant business that runs off the animal agriculture industry, large corporate pet food companies using byproducts of this industry, as well as big pharma making flea and tick products.
It is the lobbying of these large companies (such as Mars Petcare) that influence the entire veterinary world and even the salaries of vets.
In my eyes, none of what these corporates promote is what I want to feed my own dog Ruff as the food they sell profits from the meat and fish-based industries without any thought about the true health of our dogs and our planet.
PS: Having read this post, a wonderful friend and fellow vegan (and Mum to gorgeous Viszla Loki), sent me the 14 minute video below to watch. I promise it has nothing visual and upsetting in it (as I just cannot watch these), but it explains so perfectly why we eat meat and is definitely worth watching as it puts everything that all of us as passionate highly sensitive vegans do into perspective!
