    HEALTH BENEFITS
As well as making up a complete diet, Green Crunch’s ingredients also have a number of health benefits for the body, in particular the skin, heart and gut:

    • Added Algae oil provides the essential Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. They lead to a soft and healthy coat and fully support a healthy skin barrier
    • Blueberries are chosen for their antioxidant properties. They are characterised by a high fibre content, which has a beneficial effect on digestion. Minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium are abundant in the blueberries as well as high levels of Vitamins B and E.
    • Pumpkin is rich in nutrients and fibre and contains large amounts of vitamins A, C and E, as well as essential fibre. The very high potassium content in pumpkin (around 300mg in 100 grams of pumpkin) can regulate blood pressure and the heart rhythm. Due to the low sodium content, pumpkin has a diuretic effect, so that detoxification processes are stimulated in the body and harmful waste products are more easily removed.
    • Lentils and pea protein are valuable protein sources that together have an optimal amino acid profile for your dog.
    • Green Crunch is a healthy, nutritionally complete, very tasty and complete vegan food for your dog

    HEALTH BENEFITS
As well as making up a complete diet, Solo Vegetal’s ingredients also have a number of health benefits for the body, in particular the skin and gut:

    - Hulled oats : contains a higher percentage of crude protein than other oats with a higher quantity of essential amino acids. Very rich in vitamins such as thiamin, pantothenic acid and nicotinamide. The inorganic fraction is rich in trace elements, phosphorus and potassium. The fibrous component is highly digestible.
    - Einkorn wheat : thanks to its composition rich in trace elements, carotenoids and vitamin E, it has an important antioxidant action. Furthermore, the richness of polyunsaturated fatty acids and the high digestibility make it suitable even for the most sensitive dogs. Used in humans with coeliac.
    - Buckwheat : gluten-free, rich in essential amino acids, it is actually a seed with a high biological value. It also contains rutin, a substance that supports the capillary walls.
    - Spelt : naturally rich in protein and fibre and low in fat, it promotes correct intestinal transit.
    - Evening primrose and borage oil : rich in essential fatty acids (omega 3 and omega 6) they perform a protective function of the hair-skin system and have a natural anti-inflammatory activity.
    - Wheat germ : it has a high vitamin E content with a very important antioxidant function, capable of counteracting the action of free radicals. It also contains a particular substance, octacosanol, which improves physical resistance and contributes to the integrity of the nervous system.
    - Spinach : vegetable with very effective remineralsing properties and important anti anaemic and purifying properties. Rich in chlorophyll, essential for fixing calcium, phosphorus and magnesium in the bones.
    - Apple : apples contain significant vitamins. They contain numerous non-digestible fibrous compounds capable of regulating various metabolic functions: some are insoluble in water (such as cellulose) and facilitate normal intestinal emptying; others, hydrophilic, such as pectins, modulate and facilitate the absorption of nutrients.
    - Tomato : the tomato has a refreshing, astringent, thirst-quenching, diuretic and digestive action. Above all, it allows for better absorption of starches. It is rich in nutrients, vitamins and mineral salts. Tomatoes also contain lycopene, a pigment which is recognised as having important cancer prevention properties.
    - Carrots : carrots are the most important source of provitamin A (beta-carotene). Beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant. It has a soothing action on the digestive system and regulates intestinal functions. Beta-carotene is very useful for tissue growth and repair, therefore it is invaluable in maintaining skin integrity.
    - Chicory : it has exceptional properties: it stimulates the appetite; regulates the functions of the intestine, liver and kidneys; promotes the secretion of bile and diuresis; it has a purifying and detoxifying effect.
    - Alfalfa : it is a perennial herbaceous plant and is rich in phytonutrients, beta-carotene, chlorophyll, octacosanol, minerals and vitamins and is made up of 50% protein. Useful for strengthening and stimulating the immune system, especially by stimulating cell turnover.

The science behind Just Be Kind

Every Just Be Kind recipe is built on published veterinary nutrition science. Here are the key studies Dr. Arielle draws on — translated into plain English.

    Dr. Arielle's note

"I reference these studies when speaking to sceptical vets about my patients' diets. The evidence for nutritionally complete plant-based feeding has strengthened considerably since 2021."

    Taste preference

Plant-based versus meat-based pet foods: Owner-reported palatability behaviours

Proof that vegan dog food diets are as palatable as meat-based or even raw in this significant study carried out during 2020 and published by Prof Andrew Knight in June 2021

    Prof. Andrew Knight, 2020

    Longevity

Largest Study of 2536 dogs showing dogs fed vegan diets were healthiest!

Dogs fed vegan diets clearly had the best health outcomes in this very large-scale study, and these results are consistent with prior studies in this field. – Prof Andrew Knight Sept 2024

    Prof. Andrew Knight, 2024

    Digestion

Dog domestication reveals adaptation to a starch-rich diet

A fascinating study proving how mutations in key genes occurred allowing increased starch digestion in dogs relative to wolves. These results indicate that early ancestors of modern dogs could thrive on a diet rich in starch.

    Health Outcomes

Reported Health Benefits of a Vegan Dog Food - Dr Mike Davies (2022)

Davies (2022) surveyed 100 dog guardians who had switched to a nutritionally complete vegan dog food designed by UK vets. "The vegan food was acceptable (palatable), and appetite and body weight were not adversely affected."
