Aren't cats obligate carnivores that need meat in their diet to be healthy?

Cats are indeed obligate carnivores and voracious hunters that will kill and eat their prey (but usually leave the spleen and stomach of the mouse on your doorstep or bedroom floor!) Cats require a set of nutrients (not ingredients) and the right level of amino acids in their diets to remain active and healthy.

There are certain guidelines set out by FEDIAF that state exactly how much of each ingredient cats need in their diet and whether these amino acids or vitamins or minerals come from a pig's kidney, or a fish, or a chicken's liver, or a pea protein powder makes no difference once it reaches the stomach of the cat. We MUCH prefer pure proteins from plants and Omega 3's from microalgae for your cat!

Interestingly, studies have shown that the more plant protein that was added to a cat's food, the higher the protein digestibility of the food! See the study here
