How saddened I feel as passionate vet who has seen Solo Vegetal dry food come to the 'rescue' of so many of your dogs; now have it's light dimmed by the fact that it contains buckwheat as one of its ingredients.
Meat-based fresh food company Years recalled all of their foods as they blamed fresh pre-soaked buckwheat that they had in their meat-based foods as possibly causing dry eye in dogs.
The latest news is that freshly soaked buckwheat is NOT the cause of dry eye in dogs as it has undergone extensive testing and no contamination was found!
The investigation will stop there now, and sadly Years will continue to produce their foods that are rich in the byproducts of the heavily subsidised animal agriculture industry such as pig fat, pig liver, pig kidneys, chicken livers etc!
There is a mention of pork shoulder and chicken thighs in their recipes rather than the byproducts and they should provide proof of this in their recipes, as using these expensive cuts of 'meat' competes directly with the human food chain and is very expensive to buy, whereas the byproducts of the pig and chicken industry for dog food, makes every pet food company financially very viable.
Read here why we should NOT be eating chickens due to the risks of bioaccumulation from intensively reared chickens fed a concoction of crushed fishmeal, antibiotics, genetically modified corn and soya with pesticide risk!
Maybe the investigation should extend into the effects of feeding our dogs these animal parts with the risks of bioaccumulation in intensively farmed animals rather than a product such as pure buckwheat that has been used in so many pet foods for so many years and has proven health benefits....but being a novel plant-based ingredient, is a very easy target!
