OMEGA 3 Daily

Omega 3 Daily is sourced from sustainable microalgae, a safer, purer alternative to fish oil.

Each 5ml teaspoon of Omega 3 Daily contains:

Total Omega 3 835mg

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) 470mg

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) 330mg

Vegan Vitamin D3 3.5micrograms (140IU)

Astaxanthin 0.2mg

Ingredients: High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Algal Oil (DHA and EPA-rich oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp), Antioxidants (Mixed tocopherols, Rosemary extract, Ascorbyl palmitate), Astaxanthin NatAxtin (Astaxanthin rich oleoresin from Haematococcus Pluvialis), Vegan Vitamin D3.

Why not flaxseed for dogs?

Other sources of Omega 3 for your dog include ALA fatty acid from flaxseed. Due to the very low conversion rate of ALA to the important fatty acids DHA and EPA in dogs, you would need to feed your dog a month's supply of flaxseed (ALA) to obtain the equivalent bio-available Omega 3 as you would obtain from 1/2 tsp of Omega 3 Daily!

Where does the Omega 3 come from?

Fish don’t naturally produce Omega 3 DHA & EPA in their livers, they get it from their diet of krill that eat the algae. The big fish (cod) eat the little fish… who eat the Omega 3 rich krill that eat the algae in the ocean.

Scientists decided to cut out the middleman… or middle fish in this case! The ocean bed is a complex ecosystem and small fish rely on this algae and krill to survive, so disturbing this ecosystem to obtain Omega 3 rich algae could be a damaging thing.

Very clever scientists (in this case in Holland) grow this algae which is cultivated in conditions just like the seawater in bioreactors on land without the pollutants and heavy metals that unfortunately affect many of our seas and oceans now. The end result is a high quality, plant-based source of pure Omega 3 DHA and EPA that the whole family can take (we do as a family:)

Amount to give your dog

Omega 3 Daily can be given to dogs and puppies over 12 weeks of age. Add to your dog's dry food, tinned food or home cooked food EVERY DAY to enhance their health. Introduce gradually over 5 days to prevent any digestive issues.

Small dogs  <10kg - 1/2 tsp daily (1 bottle will last 2 months)

Medium dogs  10 - 25kg 1 tsp daily (1 bottle will last 1 month)

Large dogs  25 - 45kg 2tsp daily (1 bottle will last 2 weeks)

Extra large  45kg+ 3 tsp daily (1 bottle will last 10 days)

The science behind Just Be Kind

Every Just Be Kind recipe is built on published veterinary nutrition science. Here are the key studies Dr. Arielle draws on — translated into plain English.

Dr. Arielle's note

"I reference these studies when speaking to sceptical vets about my patients' diets. The evidence for nutritionally complete plant-based feeding has strengthened considerably since 2021."

Taste preference

Plant-based versus meat-based pet foods: Owner-reported palatability behaviours

Proof that vegan dog food diets are as palatable as meat-based or even raw in this significant study carried out during 2020 and published by Prof Andrew Knight in June 2021

Prof. Andrew Knight, 2020

Longevity

Largest Study of 2536 dogs showing dogs fed vegan diets were healthiest!

Dogs fed vegan diets clearly had the best health outcomes in this very large-scale study, and these results are consistent with prior studies in this field. – Prof Andrew Knight Sept 2024

Prof. Andrew Knight, 2024

Digestion

Dog domestication reveals adaptation to a starch-rich diet

A fascinating study proving how mutations in key genes occurred allowing increased starch digestion in dogs relative to wolves. These results indicate that early ancestors of modern dogs could thrive on a diet rich in starch.

Health Outcomes

Reported Health Benefits of a Vegan Dog Food - Dr Mike Davies (2022)

Davies (2022) surveyed 100 dog guardians who had switched to a nutritionally complete vegan dog food designed by UK vets. "The vegan food was acceptable (palatable), and appetite and body weight were not adversely affected."
