Feeding Guide

We recommend transitioning gradually over 7 to 14 days, mixing increasing amounts of Gentle Rosie in with your dog's current food rather than switching overnight. This gives your dog's digestive system time to adjust, particularly if they're moving from a meat-based diet to a plant-based one for the first time. Make sure fresh drinking water is always available during the transition, and keep an eye on your dog's stools as a good general indicator of how the switch is going.

Health Benefits

Gentle Rosie gets to the root of your dog’s sensitivities, as it is fully hypoallergenic with no animal products, grains, yeast or soya. Gently cooked means retaining all of those valuable nutrients found in wholefood plant proteins.

It is rich in vibrant plant goodness, including beetroot, cranberries, papaya, amaranth and rosehip, all chosen to provide a gentle bowl full of nourishment, and ideal for all dogs or any dog with digestive issues requiring a grain-free and wholefood plant-based diet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Every tray is a complete and balanced meal for adult dogs, meeting all FEDIAF nutritional guidelines and vet formulated for accuracy.

Yes, Gentle Rosie will be ideal for your dog. It contains no animal or fish proteins, no soya, no yeast, no corn, no rice, no grains, no genetically modified ingredients which are the ingredients that could be linked to digestive upset and food sensitivities in certain dogs. It's built around wholefood vibrant root vegetables, Faba Bean Protein, Amaranth, and Lupin instead. As with any diet change, we recommend transitioning gradually over 7 to 14 days so your dog's sensitive gut has time to adjust. (They will find this recipe absolutely delicious if they are used to being given only hydrolysed protein prescription diets!)

Many dog foods that list beetroot on the ingredient label are actually only using beetroot fibre or husks, not the vegetable itself. Gentle Rosie uses real beetroot, which is why you'll notice the food has a naturally vibrant red colour. Beetroot is included because it's naturally rich in nitrates, which support healthy blood pressure, and it also feeds the gut microbiome.

Tryptophan is an amino acid that acts as a natural precursor to serotonin, often called the "happy hormone." We include it because gut health and mood are closely linked in dogs, much as they are in people, and dogs with sensitivities often benefit from extra support in this area. It's one of the ingredients we're particularly proud of, alongside being something we've also added to other foods in the range, because feeding the gut properly can have a calming, settling effect that goes beyond just digestion.

Many dogs love a crunch and variety to their food and Gentle Rosie mixes perfectly with any of the dry foods we have in our range such as Green Crunch, Solo Vegetal, Greta, MicroBell, Hownd and Herbie Wilde. It can also have any homecooked ingredients added such as tofu, tempeh, lentils, beans and chickpeas. Even our very popular functional treats Shroom Paws and Marshmallow Bites can be added to provide the extra crunch!

The science behind Just Be Kind

Every Just Be Kind recipe is built on published veterinary nutrition science. Here are the key studies Dr. Arielle draws on — translated into plain English.

Dr. Arielle's note:

"I reference these studies when speaking to sceptical vets about my patients' diets. The evidence for nutritionally complete plant-based feeding has strengthened considerably since 2021."

Dog domestication reveals adaptation to a starch-rich diet

A fascinating study proving how mutations in key genes occurred allowing increased starch digestion in dogs relative to wolves. These results indicate that early ancestors of modern dogs could thrive on a diet rich in starch.
