An Unpalatable Vegan Dog Food?!

Exposing Butternut Box fresh dog food and just how palatable is their Plant Get Enough recipe?

Butternut Box plant-based put to the test with amazing results as it is unpalatable!

Who are Butternut Box?

Butternut Box non sustainable fresh foods

Butternut Box was started by 2 investment bankers in London in 2014 who saw a gap in the market and they began making fresh dog food from human grade ingredients.

Their recipes include using freshly cooked and human grade chicken, turkey, lamb, salmon, beef, deer, pork (2 recipes with pork which is known to be a Grade 1 carcinogen in dogs and in humans), duck...and their vegetarian recipe contains cheese and egg! Please note that as these recipes are marketed as human grade ingredients to feed dogs, they are advertising that dogs fed on Butternut Box are NOT fed the byproducts of the meat industry as other meat-based dog foods are made of, so exacerbating the slaughter of yet more animals and fish.

When I chose to feed both myself and our family dog Ruff a vegan diet late in my 50's (how I wish I had transitioned years and years ago); I made the choice to protect the animals and prevent unnecessary suffering and slaughter through my choice of what we ate everyday.

As a vegan vet running a vegan business, I now have you to thank for giving me the strength to stand up and expose companies that are so focussed on profit and greed, that they are prepared to exploit our animals and nature purely for the bottom line - to feed their hungry corporate investors wanting a return on their investment without a care for how the profit is made!!

Just as your support gave me the strength to expose Hills, Royal Canin, and Nestle Purina, so too does your support give me the courage to speak out against companies like Butternut Box.

The amount of millions of extra chickens, turkeys, salmon, ducks, deer, cows, lambs and pigs that will be killed unnecessarily to feed dogs fed on Butternut Box who achieved the eye watering amount of £280 million (yes you read that right!!) in investment in 2023 to expand into Europe, is quite frankly.....I cannot even think of the right word to use I feel so angry writing this!!! One of their Directors Kevin who started the company is vegetarian!!!!

Butternut Box Plant-Based

They have stopped making their Plant Get Enough dog food recipe shown above, and it was taken off their website in August 2024, so now all they offer are the very cruel animal-based foods all sold in plastic packaging.

I decided to buy some just before they stopped producing it to see what Ruff (and his visiting Vizsla friend Billy) thought. It is made with pea protein, lentils, sweet potato and carrots and is complete and balanced and as they show in the photo above....it looks nutritious and tasty...but is it?

The video is not the best quality - we do apologise for that as it was taken on a rushed Saturday morning when my daughter was home. The results did surprise us though!!
