Why do Beardies Thrive on a Plant-Based Diet?

Research shows that plant-based nutrition is the least inflammatory of all the diets and can offer a kind alternative and solution for highly sensitive Bearded Collies with:

💚 Itchy skin and allergies

💚 Sensitive stomachs

💚 Joint and weight issues

💚 Longevity

When growing up, as a vet student in the 80s; we had a darling Beardie called Biddy. She taught me so much about just how sensitive Bearded Collies are as I remember vividly how she suffered from such severe colitis after every visit to the grooming parlour!

Biddy was also the most empathetic dog I have ever lived with as I will never forget the day I heard that I had failed Biochemistry and Physiology as a 2nd year vet student and would need to repeat the entire year of vet school.

I felt my world had collapsed and I remember sobbing on my bed for hours. Biddy did something she had never done before. She quietly climbed onto the bed and lay flat on top of me as if to offer me every ounce of her warmth that she could offer.

It stopped me immediately and gave me the drive to continue to strive to become a vet and I owe SO much to that darling gentle and hyper-sensitive dog.

She was sadly never fed a plant-based diet as my matriarchal french Mum fed her a high meat-based diet in those days (read here about dogs and kidney disease in dogs caused by a high meat diet)

Dr Arielle speaks at London Vet Show 2025 about the benefits of plant-based dog nutrition
When nutrition is done right, you don’t necessarily notice it working — you just notice your dog thriving. No noise, no stress, no vet appointments. To benefit our environment and farmed animals too is a massive bonus!
