Our Hearty Umami Stew is packed full of protein from the beans, chickpeas, quinoa and hemp seeds that is needed in our dogs on a wholefood plant-based diet. The addition of root vegetables provides all the essential vitamins, minerals and important fibres from the roots where these nutrients are concentrated. This recipe contains a number of different coloured vegetables to provide the diversity needed to feed your dog’s gut bacteria adequately. Most of the store cupboard ingredients can be purchased from a great online company in Kent BuyWholeFoodsOnline.

Cooking Instructions:

  • Drain, then rinse the chickpeas and black beans or red kidney beans well. Add to a large cooking pot
  • Chop the green beans, parsnips and peeled sweet potatoes into small pieces and roughly grate or tear the mushrooms
  • Add all the above vegetables to the pot along with quinoa and hemp hearts
  • Separately mix marmite, dried oregano, tomato paste and boiling water to form a sauce. Add this to the pot
  • Fill the pot with more boiling water until the ingredients are just covered
  • Boil for 30 minutes or until the vegetables are soft
  • Mash or blend the food once cooked
  • Lastly add the blueberries (option to mash at this stage if your dog doesn’t like whole blueberries)
